About ECOM CPA

The CPA firm that only does eCommerce.

ECOM CPA started with a founder who had been in eCommerce since 2005 and kept running into CPA firms that did not understand the business. Today we are a fully remote firm of CPAs, accountants, and eCommerce operators handling monthly accounting, tax planning, tax filing, and fractional CFO work for 7–9 figure brands, with one client manager owning all of it.

Why we built ECOM CPA

Our founder, Jeremy Allen, has been involved with eCommerce businesses since 2005 and has been a CPA for more than 20 years. He started ECOM CPA out of frustration with traditional CPA firms that did not truly understand their clients and provided no real value beyond a filed return.

That frustration is common in eCommerce. Inventory and COGS get calculated wrong. Net payouts get booked as if they were gross sales. Tax strategy gets skipped because the person filing the return first sees the numbers in February, when the moves that would have lowered the bill are already off the table. 70% of the books we take over have errors, and over 90% of the time we find a tax strategy the previous CPA missed.

So we built the firm we wished existed: one team that does the books and the taxes, runs on software built for eCommerce, and talks to you all year instead of once in April. Several of our team members own and operate eCommerce businesses themselves, and we consult with eCommerce tech providers on their product roadmaps. We see the industry from the operator’s side as well as the accountant’s.

How we work

Four things we do on purpose, for every client

eCommerce only

Every client sells online. No restaurants, no dental practices, no firms that “also do eCommerce.” Our processes for COGS, inventory, marketplace reconciliation, and multi-channel reporting were built for how you operate, not adapted from a generic template.

Books and taxes under one roof

The team that closes your books is the team that plans and files your taxes. One client manager, one thread, and no year-end handoff to a tax partner you have never met.

Software-first and fully remote

We run on A2X, QuickBooks Online, Xero, and Karbon, connected to Shopify, Amazon, and Stripe, so your books reflect reality instead of a reconciliation backlog. We are a 100% remote, paperless firm.

Proactive, all year

Twice a year we sit down with you to plan estimated taxes, entity and compensation changes, and growth moves while there is still time to make them. If you hear about a problem from the IRS before you hear it from us, we have failed.

Our Core Values

The three values we hire for and hold each other to.

It’s Not About Me, It’s About We

We’re all in this together—when we collaborate, support each other, and stay aligned, we accomplish more than any of us could alone.

We’re On It

If something needs to get done, we handle it. We take initiative, follow through, and make sure no one has to chase us down.

Everyone Is Accountable

We own what we do, hold each other to high standards, and always follow through—because that’s how trust is built.

The people you’ll work with

CPAs, operators, and eCommerce specialists. These are the four who set the direction of the firm.

Jeremy Allen

CEO & Founder

I’ve been involved with e-commerce businesses since 2005, and I started Ecom CPA because I was so frustrated with the traditional CPA firm that doesn’t truly understand their client, and provides no real value. I’ve been a CPA for over 20 years, and truly enjoy providing Tax Planning and CFO Services. I like automation and am constantly testing new software platforms.

Tracy Rhew

Director of Operations

The e-commerce business model has shifted the business world and it expanded the opportunity to own a business to anyone in the world. It is such an exciting and fast-paced industry that drives the necessity of operating in excellence. I have years of experience in guiding and directing CPA firm operations and truly enjoy providing operational excellence that allows our clients and firm to reach their highest goals. In my free time I enjoy being a dog mom, traveling and singing/playing music.

Sales & Marketing Manager

I believe e-commerce is the most empowering business model the world has ever seen. With an internet connection and a few Udemy Courses someone in a remote village can start, manage, and grow a successful company. I want to be part of their journey, to cheer for and enable that business. From Enterprise Technology to my own lawn service business I started at 12 years old…I’ve sold lots of great things, yet have never been more excited than I am now to bring ECOM CPA’s services to online sellers.

Merit Nateras, Tax Manager at ECOM CPA

Merit Nateras

Tax Manager

With over 20 years in public accounting, I’ve witnessed the tax world evolve from receipts in shoeboxes to a fully paperless, technology-driven industry—one where E-commerce now leads the way. E-commerce isn’t just a business model; it has become a way of life for many of us.

What motivates me every day is helping clients navigate where they are today while preparing for where they’re headed tomorrow. Leading our team through the complexities of tax compliance has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career. I feel truly blessed to be part of the ECOM CPA team, where innovation and client success go hand in hand.

Who we work best with

We are not the right firm for everyone, and we would rather say so up front.

A strong fit

  • Brands doing $1M+ a year in sales on Shopify, Amazon, or across several channels, with inventory to account for.
  • Owners who want one partner for accounting, tax, and CFO work instead of a bookkeeper plus a separate tax firm.
  • Profitable businesses. At $150K+ in net profit, our tax planning typically uncovers $20K–$50K in first-year savings.

Most 7-figure brands start with Accounting + Controller. Compare the plans to see what each tier includes.

Not there yet?

If you are earlier than that, start with the free resources. The tax strategy playbook and the blog cover the decisions that come up first: entity choice, inventory and COGS, marketplace payouts, sales tax, and what to fix before you hire anyone.

When planning can actually move the number for you, we would like to talk.

Having a dedicated e-commerce accounting group has made a whirlwind of a difference in our business. They know things about e-commerce that no run-of-the-mill accountants do. We found a winning partner!
